NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys basketball team lost 49-48 against Wallkill Valley on Thursday, but swept past Boonton 83-62 on Saturday.
The Braves dominated over Boonton in the first half, going into halftime leading by 50-30. Although Boonton came back in the second half to score 32 more points, Newton scored an additional 33 points to take the victory.
Lead scorer for Newton was Aaron Fantasia who put up seven 2-pointers, one 3-pointer and made seven free throws for a total of 24 points. Brian McKeown was close behind Fantasia, scoring 21 points after making four 2-pointers and four foul shots and three 3-pointers.
Donovan Thomas contributed 17 points throughout the game, along with Dylan Bailey who contributed nine points, Jack young with six, Pasquale Festa added another four points, and Gabriel Tebangin contributed two points.
Newton played away on Thursday against Wallkill Valley and lost a heartbreak of a game by one point. Wallkill Valley went into halftime only leading by 10 points and the Braves battled back, scoring another 28 points, but Wallkill Valley added another 19 points in the second half for the win.
Fantasia was the lead scorer for this game as well, contributing 16 points to the board and Bailey put up another 13 points for Newton. Thomas added seven more points and McKeown and Young each contributed six points apiece to the score.
The Newton High School boys basketball team moved their overall record to 13-8. They will host Jefferson in their next regular season game, which will take place on Wednesday, February 19 beginning at 7 p.m.
