NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys basketball team swept Vernon on Wednesday, December 20, when they played them away and won 75-36.

“The team shot the ball extremely well,” head coach Dirk Kelly said. “They were unselfish and they played excellent defense. Luismy Arias and Jake Heller got us started by hitting three pointers. The team just followed their lead. We need to continue to improve our defense every time we play.”

Heller lead the Braves in their victory, scoring 17 points throughout the game, followed by Arias who had 13, Thomas Salomon with 11, and Jake Tarabokija and Troy Babcock with 10 points.

Other Braves who contributed in the victory were Luke Young who scored nine points, Jimmy McKeown with three and Alex Rivas with two points.

The Braves made 15 2-pointers, 13 3-pointers and six foul shots against Vernon.

The Newton High School boys basketball team moved their record to 2-0.
