NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys basketball advanced to the quarterfinals round of the 2017 NJSIAA North 1, Group 2 tournament, walking all over Wallkill Valley, 76-39 on Monday.

The Braves dominated each quarter against Wallkill Valley, scoring 15 points in the first and 18 in the second to take the lead at halftime, 33-19.

Newton came back in the second half even more fired up, scoring a whopping 27 points in the third quarter and another 16 in the fourth to take the victory over 14-seeded Wallkill Valley and advance to the next round of the tournament.

Leading the Braves in points in their victory was Luismy Arias with 20 points, making one 2-pointer, four 3-pointers and six foul shots.

Arias was followed closely by Charlie Maker with 16, Collin Kelly with 15, and Jason Heter with 14 points. Thomas Salomon contributed nine points and Hunter Grave de Peralta contributed two.

The Newton High School Boys basketball team, third-seed in the tournament, will host sixth seeded Glen Rock in the quarterfinals round of the tournament on Wednesday, March 1 at Newton’s gym, with a tip off of 7 p.m.
