NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys basketball team hosted Dover on Tuesday winning 60-56. The boys then went on to host Morris Knolls on Wednesday and win 58-32.
The Braves came out strong against Morris Knolls, doubling their score going into halftime 28-14. Both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter, but Newton scored another 18 in the fourth against Morris Knolls’ six to take the victory.
Aaron Fantasia led the Braves in scoring, putting up 16 points; five 2-pointers and two 3-pointers. Dylan Bailey had 11 points; three 2-pointers and five foul shots. Brian McKeown also added eight points.
It was a team effort with 10 players scoring; Donovan Thomas- six points, JD Heller-five points, and Jack Young- four points. Kellen Miller, Ryan Ayoso, Pasquale Festa and Angelico Villaruz all scored.
The score against Dover was much closer, as Newton took the win by four points. Newton was down by three (34-31) going into halftime but came back in the second quarter to score 29 more points, while Dover only score 24.
Fantasia and McKeown each put up 19 points in the game against the Tigers. Fantasia made eight 2-pointers and one 3-pointer and McKeown made five 2-pointers and three 3-pointers.
Young put up three 2-pointers and one 3-pointers to add nine points to the scoreboard, while Bailey contributed six points, Thomas had four and Heller added another three.
The Newton High School Braves moved their overall record to 10-4 this week and their NJAC record to 8-2, stepping in front of Dover’s 9-4 overall record and their now 7-2 NJAC record.
The Braves will play away against Lenape Valley on Friday, January 24 beginning at 7 p.m.
