NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys basketball team lost 72-51 to Wallkill Valley on Wednesday.
Playing on the Ranger’s court, the Braves came out strong scoring 17 points in the first quarter, compared to Wallkill’s 12. Unfortunately, Wallkill charged ahead with 25 points in the second quarter putting the Rangers up 37-27 by halftime.
Newton continued fighting, scoring another 15 in the third and finally nine more points in the fourth. It was not enough to win over Wallkill, who came out after halftime and scored another 17 points in the third, and 18 more to take the victory away from Newton.
Alex Rivas and Alex Stone led the Braves in points; Rivas had 17 and Stone ended the game with 14. Both Alexes had two from 3 point range. Stone sunk two from the foul line.
Brian McKeown contributed eight points with two 3-pointers. Donovan Thomas had six. Aaron Fantasia and Kevin Ayoso each contributed three points.
The Newton High School boys basketball team continues on in the season with an overall record of 3-6 and a conference-division record of 1-3 as they are currently ranked sixth in the division.
They will host Parsippany Hills in a night game on Friday, January 11 in Newton High School’s gym, with a start time of 7 p.m.
