NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Braves boys basketball team won their home opener against Jefferson 66-62 when they played them Friday, December 18.
Samir Wheeler led the Braves in points, having a total of 19 at the end of the game. He was followed by Charlie Maker with 13, Jason Heter with 12, and Andrew Cooney with 11.
“We haven’t beaten Jefferson in more than 10 years, so we knew going into this game that it was going to be a close one”, said Head Coach Dirk Kelly. “When we were up by 19, I was the most surprised guy in the gym.”
The Braves made a total of three three-point shots, 20 two-pointers and 10 foul shots throughout the game against Jefferson.
“I think the boys did great. It was a total team win, everyone contributed to the plays and we expect to win next game too,” said Kelly.
