NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys lacrosse team fell hard 19-1 against the top-seeded Mountain Lakes on Saturday, when they played them away in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Group 1 tournament.
Grant Parker was the only Brave to score a goal against Mountain Lakes’ offense, with an assist by Matt Krawchuk.
Krawchuk led Newton offensively, grabbing five groundballs before top-seeded Mountain Lakes’ offense could.
Following closely behind him were teammates, Parker, Tim Houliohan, and Jacob Estevez with three groundballs apiece, while Andrew Chrustic, Kyle Vandenberg and Ryan Venderburg, each with two.
The Braves had two goalkeepers against Mountain Lakes’ offense, regular starter Tyler Sevean and then Chris Polyak. Sevean had three saves, but allowed nine goals, while Polyak had two saves and allowed 10 goals.
The Newton High School Boys Lacrosse team, who started as the eight-seeded team in the tournament, fought their way to the quarterfinal round by beating ninth-seeded North Warren in an overtime period by one last week.
The Newton Braves’ record became 10-7 overall and 6-3 in their league as they closed out the season on Saturday.
