NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys lacrosse team lost to Phillipsburg, 11-4, when they played them away on Thursday.
Despite trailing by one going into halftime, Newton just could not keep up with the Phillipsburg’s players, who came out at the second half and scored five goals in the third quarter.
Newton’s goalkeeper, Tyler Sevean, allowed 11 goals by Phillipsburg, while stopping 20 shots taken on him.
Kyle Vandenberg led the Braves, scoring two goals, with Ryan Vanderburg and Grant Parker each putting one in the net.
Nick Krawchuk and Andrew Chrustic led Newton defensively, grabbing five ground balls apiece against Phillipsburg. Parker was able to pick-up four, while Vandenberg, Jacob Estevez, and Vanderberg got three each.
Matt Krawchuk, Jason Gabbard, and PJ Russell each had two ground balls apiece, while Giovanni Bevacqua, Hunter Grave de Peralta, and Logan Kellenberger grabbed one apiece.
The Newton High School Boys Lacrosse will host 15-seeded High Point, as the 10-seeded team in the preliminary round of the Hunterdon/Warren./Sussex tournament on Thursday, May 4, (time TBD)
