NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Boys Lacrosse team won their first game of the season, 6-4, when they played Kittatinny home on Tuesday, April 12.
“Ethan Rezcka was the Most Valuable Player of the game,” said Coach Brian Bennington.
Kevin Rodriquez scored two goals for the Braves. Matt Krawchuk, Logan Kellenberger, Ryan Vandenberg, and Giovanni Bavangua each scored one goal. Krawchuk had three assists and Kellenberger had two assists.
“I am very proud of how Newton played [against Kittatinny]. They played with a lot of heart. The guys fought for every ground ball and contested passes, which meant we possessed the ball. Our game with Kittatinny is always a hard fought game for both teams because of the cross town rivalry and Beatty Cup Trophy. We went into this game knowing that and the guys rose to the occasion and secured the trophy for another year,” said Bennington.
“We had a tough start to the season with some close loses. As we move forward, the team is focused on fundamental lacrosse. We have many competitive games left to play and we will be ready,” said Bennington.
The Braves’ record is 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the league division. They go up against High Point, away on Thursday, April 14 at 4 p.m.
