NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys lacrosse team won their home opener of the season, when they played against Lenape Valley 15-10 on Wednesday, March 29.
The Vandenberg brothers Kyle and Ryan, both attackers, led the Braves in scoring. Kyle had six goals and two assists. Ryan had five goals and three assists.
Midfielders Logan Kellenberger, Matt Krawchuk and Giovanni Bevcqua and attacker PJ Russell, each contributed with one goal apiece for the Braves.
Other assists were made by Kellenberger and Krawchuk with two. Midfielder Grant Parker and Bevacqua each had an assist as well.
Tyler Sevean, goalie for Newton had 11 saves against Lenape Valley. Nick Krawchuk, defense, got eight ground balls throughout the game.
Tim Houilihan, who did the face-offs for Newton got the ball 62 percent of the time for a total of 17 wins.
The Braves move into their season with a 1-0 record already under their belts. They will play against North Warren on Monday, April 3 away starting at 4 p.m.
