Newton Boys Soccer Team Takes Home the Championship

NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys soccer team became the 2016 North Jersey Section 1, Group 2 Champions on Thursday, November 10, when they played home against Lakeland in the final round of the NJSIAA tournament and won 1-0.

Edward Lynch was the only player to score a goal during the game on Newton’s turf field. Lynch scored with an assist by Nick Daschko.

Top-seeded Newton out shot seventh-seeded Lakeland 12-3. Lakeland’s goalie Josh Schaffer had 12 saves against Newton. Newton High School’s keeper Sam Miller had three saves throughout the game.

The Newton High School Braves boys soccer team now advances to the North 2, Group 2 semi-final round.

They will take on the winner of the Group 2 championship, top-seeded Harrison on Tuesday, November 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Livingston High School.
