NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Boys Soccer team took on Wallkill Valley at their home field on Thursday, September 8 for the first game of the season and won, 4-1.
“Wallkill Valley scored at the 32 minute mark to take the lead at the half,” said Coach Brian Martin. “Newton tied the game in the 55 minute, on a goal by Johnny Costa.”
Goals were scored by Costa who also had one assist, Jake DeLuca, who scored the winning goal, and Tommy Hermann and Edward Lynch, who added “assurance goals toward the end of the game,” said Martin.
Richie Reczka has one assist in the game, while Jefferson Argandona-Mecias had two assists. Newton’s goalkeeper, Sam Miller had 12 saves out of the 13 shots that were taken on him by Wallkill Valley.
The boys start the season off with a 1-0 record as they go on to play against Vernon on the home field on Saturday, September 10 at 4 p.m.
