NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys tennis team lost to Vernon for the second time this season on Wednesday, when they played them home. The final score was 4-1.
The results of the matches are as follows:
1st Singles: Vinny Dasaro (V) defeated Shawn Corio (N) 6-2, 6-0
2nd Singles: Nathaniel Nunez (V) defeated Dugyala Ashish (N) 6-0, 6-4
3rd Singles: Justin Marenzana (N) defeated Matt VonEssen (V) 6-3, 1-6, 10-5
1st Doubles: Joe Margroff & Alejandro Martinez (V) defeated Kellen Miller & Peter VanOrden, 6-3, 6-1
2nd Doubles: Jack Bokun & Noah DeVelez (V) defeated Johnathan O’Brien & Ryan Ritte (N), 6-3, 6-1
The Braves, who are now 3-10 overall, will begin the 2017 NJSIAA North 1, Group 1 tournament as the 13-seeded team.
Newton will take on fourth-seeded Kittatinny on Friday, May 12 away on Kittatinny’s courts. The time has yet to be determined.
