Newton Field Hockey Gets Shut Out by Wallkill

Credits: Danielle Francisco

NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School Lady Braves field hockey were unable to score against Wallkill Valley’s defense on Wednesday, as they were shut out 5-0.

“We did not play to our potential and capitalize on corners and other scoring opportunities,” said Head Coach Lisa Bechtel. “Wallkill played strong defense and hustled to the ball. We look forward to playing them on October 18 at our place.”

Newton and Wallkill Valley went neck and neck with 10 shots on each goal. Abby Berkowitz had eight saves, while Wallkill’s goalie, Kristina Yakkey had seven.

The Lady Braves’ record is now 4-3 overall and their conference-division record is 2-1 as they move ahead to host Sparta on Saturday, September 23 with an 11 a.m. start time.
