NEWTON, NJ—The Lady Braves beat Blair 5-4 when they played them away on Tuesday, October 20.
After two regulation halves, the score was tied at 4-4 going into the first overtime round. Newton took the win by scoring first.
“It was some game,” said Coach Lisa Bechtel. “We handed Blair their first loss of the year.” Blair’s record is now 12-1.
Olivia Weiss led the Braves by scoring three goals. She was followed by Kate Barbato and Natalie Rivas who each scored one goal.
Emily Weiss and Rivas each had two assists in the game, followed by Nicole Rizzo who had one assist.
“The girls played with a great deal of intensity and will to win. They fought hard to secure the win by giving each other a tremendous amount of support. It was another total team effort and win. I am very proud of each and every one of them.” said Bechtel.
Newton Field Hockey is ranked number one in the North 1 Group 1 division. They will get a bye in the first round of the NJSIAA State Tournament, tentatively expected to start on Monday.
The Lady Braves’ record is now 14-1-1. Their next scheduled game is Thursday, October 22 away against Wallkill at 4 p.m.
