NEWTON, NJ—Despite the rain, the Newton High School football team, under direction of new coach Matt Parzero, won their third game of the season against Vernon winning 13-7 on Friday, September 30.
Offensively, Chase Cramer and Wyatt McCarthy each scored a touchdown in the game against Vernon. McCarthy ran for a 4-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Vernon came back with 5:13 remaining in the half as Mike Stefkovich scored a 23-yard touchdown.
Cramer brought the Braves back to the top, when he scored the winning touchdown with 9:50 left in the fourth quarter.
Will Larsen rushed a total of 16 times for 73 yards, McCarthy had 43 rushing yards in the Braves’ win, while Cramer led the Braves with 115 yards rushed on 20 carries.
This is the first time since 2006 that the Braves have beaten the Vikings and also the second game in a row that they have now won.
The Braves, with a record of 3-1 overall now, will look forward to taking on Lakeland away on Friday, October 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
