NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Girls Basketball team hosted High Point and North Warren this week, taking both games as wins.

The Braves played North Warren and won 40-29. Lead scorer for Newton was Olivia Buckley, putting up one 2-pointer, four 3-pointers and two foul shots. Maddie Gore scored 10 points, making three 2-pointers and four free throws.

Amy Fehr contributed another seven points to the score, Taylor Squiers added six more points, and Caroline Fox made one foul shot.

In the game against North Warren, the Braves won 54-32. Gore was the lead scorer, putting up 19 points, making seven 2-pointers, one 3-pointer and two foul shots.

Buckley contributed with six 2-pointers, adding another 12 points to the scoreboard. Jessie Brannick put up one 2-pointer, two 3-pointers, and two free throws for a total of 10 points throughout the game.

Squiers scored six points, Fox added another four, Fehr, who had 11 rebounds on defense contributed two points and Natalie Fund made one free throw.

The Newton High School girls basketball team’s overall record is 16-8 and their NJAC division record is 13-5. The Braves will begin the NJSIAA sectional tournament, North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2  as the fifth-seeded team hosting the first round against 12-seeded Hawthorne on Tuesday, March 3 beginning at 7 p.m.
