NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School Girls Basketball team beat Lenape Valley 59-46, when they played them away on Tuesday, February 7 in the first round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament.

Leading Newton in scoring were three Braves, Kaitlyn Lynch, Madison Leonardo, and Jade Luciani.

Lynch scored 15 points, with six 2-pointers and three foul shots, Leonardo had 14 points with two 2-pointers and four 3-pointers, and Luciani had 13 points with five 2-pointers and three foul shots.

Other Braves who contributed to the score were Jasmine Luciani with eight, Courtney McHale with seven, and Irelee Ferguson with two.

Offensively, the Braves had 16 2-pointers, five 3-pointers, 13 foul shots and 14 assists. Defensively, the girls had six steals, four blocks and 32 rebounds throughout the game.

The Newton High School Girls Basketball team is 14-6 overall this season and 3-0 on the conference division. They moved into the quarterfinals of the tournament and took on Hackettstown on Saturday.
