NEWTON, NJ—Three days before they are set to play in the final round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament, the Newton High School Girls Basketball team lost to High Point, 49-34, when they played them away on Tuesday.
The Luciani sisters, Jasmine and Jade, led the Braves in scoring against High Point. Jasmine contributed eight points and Jade had seven.
Kaitlyn Lynch put six points on the scoreboard, while Courtney McHale and Ireelee Ferguson each contributed five, and Madison Leonardo had three.
Newton kept the score close throughout the first half of the game, going into halftime with a score of 15-17, High Point leading.
In the third quarter, High Point gained an eight point lead, scoring 18 points to Newton’s 12. Newton was not able to catch up in the fourth quarter and High Point scored 14 points, double what Newton scored in the final quarter.
The Newton High School Girls Basketball team will face off as the sixth-seed in the H/W/S tournament against Phillipsburg who is the top-seed in the tournament, on Friday, February 24 at High Point, with tip off at 7 p.m.
