NEWTON, NJ—The sixth-seeded Newton High School Girls Basketball team swept second-seeded Warren Hills 55-42, in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex semi-finals.
Kaitlyn Lynch, Newton’s top scorer this season, led the Braves in their victory on Saturday in the Wallkill Valley Regional High School gym.
Lynch had 15 points, making five 2-pointers, one 3-pointer, and two foul shots. She also had 10 rebounds, the most rebounds throughout the game against Warren Hills.
Following up Lynch in points were Madison Leonardo with 12, Jasmine Luciani with 11 and Irelee Ferguson with 10.
Courtney McHale contributed four points, Emily Pappas had two and Jade Luciani added one point to the score board.
The Braves dominated the first quarter of the game, scoring 12 points against Warren Hills’ seven. But Warren Hills came back in the second quarter, scoring 18 points, to take the lead by one going into halftime.
Taking the third quarter 11-8, the Braves continued to raise the score to take the victory over Warren Hills by 13 points and move into the final round of the H/W/S tournament.
The Newton High School Girls basketball team will take on top-seeded High Point on Friday, February 24 at High Point, with tip off at 7 p.m.
