NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls basketball team won by five points against Morris Knolls, when they played them away on Wednesday and won 44-39.
The Braves came out strong in the first half, taking the lead by seven as they entered into halftime. Morris Knolls battled back in the second half but the Braves pulled ahead for the win.
Maddie Gore, one of Newton’s top scorers this season put up 25 points; nine 2-pointers and seven foul shots. Amy Fehr contributed with four 2-pointers and three foul shots to add another 11 points.
Olivia Buckley added another five points to the scoreboard and Taylor Squiers put up two points, while Jessie Brannick made one fouls shot to add another.
Fehr grabbed 25 rebounds against the Golden Eagles and Gore got 15. Brannick had five steals in the game.
The Newton High School girls basketball team moved their overall record to 9-4 and their NJAC division record to 7-3. They will host Morris Tech on Friday, January 24, beginning at 4 p.m.
