NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School Girls Basketball team decimated Vernon, 67-14, when they played them home on Wednesday.

The lead scorer for the Braves in their victory over Vernon was Kaitlyn Lynch, who contributed 12 points, with six 2-pointers.

Closely behind Lynch was Arianna Ziegler and Jasmine Luciani, who added 10 points apiece to the board. Ziegler made five 2-pointers and Luciani made two 2-pointers, one 3-pointer, and one foul shot.

Other Braves who played a part in the victory over Vernon were Jade Luciani and Irelee Ferguson with nine points, Emily Pappas, Olivia O’Brein, and Madison Leonardo with five points and Courtney McHale with two points.

Offensively, the Braves made 24 2-pointers, five 3-pointers, two foul shots and made 22 assists. Defensively, they had 31 rebounds, 11 steals and three blocks.

The Newton High School Girls Basketball team is 8-5 in the season overall and 2-0 in the conference division. They will host Jefferson on Thursday, January 26, beginning at 7 p.m.
