NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls coccer team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament after they beat Belvidere 4-1 on Saturday in the second round.
“The girls are starting to gel as a team and playing well together,” said Head Coach Jake Mull.
Once again this season, Kayleigh Furth led the Braves contributing two goals. Blaise Vallorosi and Kass Wojcik who each added one goal apiece.
Brianna Giordano had two assists. Olivia Buckley and Vallorosi were each credited with one assist apiece.
Newton out shot Belvidere 13-3, leaving Newton keepter Karis Steele to have two saves against Belvidere.
The Newton High School girls soccer team will move into the quarterfinal round of the tournament as the ninth-seeded team. They will face off against top seed Kittatinny.
“We are looking forward to playing Kittatinny in the next round. Kittatinny is a very good team and we will need to be at the top of our game to beat them,” said Mull.
The quarterfinal round game will take place away at Kittatinny’s field on Saturday, October 14, beginning at 10 a.m.
