NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Girls Soccer team won against Hackettstown, 2-0 on Wednesday, September 23.
At the end of the first half, both teams remained scoreless. Newton came out in the second half hungry for a goal. Within the first four minutes of the second half, Kayleigh Furth scored a goal assisted by Ashley VanHoorebeke.
The second goal was scored seven minutes later by Alyssa Petry with an assist by Kayleigh Furth. Karis Steele made four saves throughout the game, ending with a shut-out against Hackettstown.
Newton outshot Hackettstown 17-5 throughout the game on Wednesday. Hackettstown’s goalie, Precsilla Acuria had nine saves against Newton.
Their record is now 3-3.
“We played well, but we still need to improve", said Coach Jake Mull.
