NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Girls soccer team was crushed by Sparta on Saturday, September 26, as they lost, 7-1.
Newton’s record is now 3-4-1, with a tie against Vernon on September 24. Newton’s only goal was scored by Kayleigh Furth, assisted by Courtney McHale.
Sparta outshot Newton 12-6. Karis Steele, goalkeeper for Newton, had five saves throughout the game.
The girls from Sparta played an aggressive game against Newton, with little to no calls against them by the referees. Parents, players, and coaches protested loudly throughout the game, as it seemed to them that the referees did little about the aggressiveness of the Sparta players against Newton.
“They’re not making any calls”, said Coach Jake Mull, “so start playing like it”.
The girls will play against Hopatcong, away on Tuesday, September 29 at 4 p.m.
