NEWTON, NJ - Newton's girls soccer team lost to Clifton on Saturday, Sept. 19, making their record 2-3.

“We did not play well at all. We had too many mental mistakes and we were not moving to the ball. Clifton is a very good team but if we played to our potential we would have beat them," said head coach Jake Mull.

Goals were scored by Alyssa Petry with an assist by Mackenzie May and Courtney McHale with an assist by Kayleigh Furth.

Karis Steele had 12 saves that came from shots on goal by Clifton. Newton took six shots on the Clifton goalie, while Clifton had 13 shots on Steele.

The girl’s next game is Wednesday, Sept. 23 at home at the Newton High School turf field at 4 p.m. against Hackettstown.

Their season so far:

  • 9/8 vs. Whippany Park 0-5,
  • 9/10 vs. Jefferson 4-1,
  • 9/15 vs. Walkhill 0-1, 
  • 9/17 vs. Kittatinny 2-0
