NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls soccer team lost to Sparta 2-1 in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 tournament that was played home on Monday, October 30 at 2 p.m.

Kass Wojcik stepped up for the Braves, scoring the only goal for Newton with an assist from Davis Ann Boyd.

“We didn't play well enough to win and Sparta was able to capitalize on their scoring opportunities,” Head Coach Jake Mull said.

Sparta outshot Newton 14-6 throughout the tournament game, keeping Newton’s goalkeeper, Karis Steele busy in net.

The Newton girls soccer team ends their season with an overall record of 17-6-1 and a conference-division record of 7-1, which won them the division title this year.
