NEWTON, NJ— In a close game under the lights at High Point, Newton girls soccer lost 2-1 on Wednesday, October 21.
“We played very well and had our chances. It was unfortunate that we lost on an own goal.” said Coach Jake Mull
At the end of regulation play, the teams were tied 1 all. In the first overtime period, High Point scored.
The goal was what’s referred to as “an own goal”. The ball bounced off of one of the Newton’s defenders during a free kick.
Kass Wojcik scored the only goal for Newton, with an assist from Courtney McHale. Newton was outshot by High Point, 26-14.
Karis Steele, goalie for Newton, had eight saves against High Point. Eve Sarracco, the goalie for High Point, has 13 saves against Newton.
The girls’ record is now 8-7-1. Their next game is Monday, October 26, home against Hopatcong at 4 p.m.
