NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls softball team ended their season after they lost to Jefferson in the first round of the NJSIAA North 1, Group 2 tournament.

Newton entered the tournament as the 13-seeded team and went up against sixth-seeded Jefferson away on Monday and lost 11-1.

Madeline Gore and Petrina Herold went 1-for-3 at bat against Jefferson’s pitcher Morgan Carr. Morgan Mendel went 1-for-2 at bat.

Katie Maker pitched six innings for Newton, striking out 10 players, walking six and allowed 11 runs off 13 hits, with 10 errors.

The Newton High School girls softball team ended their season with a 10-9 overall record and a 4-3 league record. They placed third in the league behind top Lenape Valley and second place Vernon.
