NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School softball team shut out North Warren 11-0, when they played them away on Tuesday.

Morgan Mendel led the Braves in their victory over North Warren. She drove in three RBIs, while going 2-for-2, with a double and a run.

Following Mendel was Taylor Thieme and Sierra Dunn who each drove in two RBIs. Dunn went 1-for-4, with a double and one run. While Thieme went 0-for-1, scoring one run.

Brianna Bello, Carly DeIorio, Rebecca Powers, and Kathryn Szatkiewicz each drive in one RBI apiece. Bello went 2-for-3, scoring one run, DeIorio went 1-for-4, scoring a run, and Szatkiewicz went 2-for-3, scoring two runs.

Rebecca Finley, Abby Wittig, and Roberta Muresan each contributed a run each for Newton.

Pitching the entire six inning game for the Braves was Katie Maker. Maker struck out eight and walked four. She allowed two hits with no errors and a shutout in runs.

The Newton High School softball team moves their record to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in their league division.

They are currently in fourth place in the league, above High Point (1-3), but below Vernon (4-0) Hackettstown (2-2) and Lenape Valley (2-3).
