NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School Girls Softball team lost their first game of the season 11-1, when they played away against Vernon on Monday, April 3.

Newton’s Petrina Herold was the only Brave to get a hit against Vernon’s pitcher, Victoria Grifone in 18 Newton trips to the plate.

Kathryn Szatkiewicz, scored the only run for the Braves on a walk in her only time at bat. Herold and Taylor Thieme,were also walked. 

Newton scored their run in the fifth inning.Vernon managed to score one run in the first, two in the second, three in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth.
