Newton Girls Tennis Recap: Girls Lose Two Out of Three Matches This Week

NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls tennis team hosted Lenape Valley on Friday and were shut out 5-0.

  • Julia Chuck (LP) won over Rose Deryder (N), 6-0, 6-2
  • Carly Costanza (LP) won over Oliva Sylvester, 7-5, 7(7)-6(3)


  • Kathryn Cautero & Rachael Lefurge (LP) won over Lauren Ehrenberg & Natalie Smith (N), 6-0, 7-5
  • Sophie Battaglino & Julia Minisi (LP) won over Grace Viggorito & Erica Hvizdos (N), 6(7)-7(2), 6-4, 7(15)-6(13)

The Newton High School girls tennis team lost to Sussex Tech 4-1, when they played them away on Wednesday.

The results of the matches are as follows:


  • Maria Stere (ST) won over Isabella Velasco (N), 6-0, 6-2
  • Domenique Bevacqua (ST) won over Rose Deryder (N), 6-1, 7(7)-6(3)
  • Oliva Sylvester (N) won over Julianna Moraski (ST), 6-2, 6-3


  • Christine Miller & Deanna Nussberger (ST) won over Lauren Ehrenberg and Natalie Smith (N), 6-3, 6-2
  • Rose Bimbi & Meredith MacRae (ST) won over Erica Hvizdos and Grace Vigorito (N), 6-4, 7-5

The Newton High School girls tennis team moves their record to 2-5 as they move forward to take on Hopatcong away on Thursday, September 28, beginning at 4 p.m.
