NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School softball  lost a close game to Vernon 9-5 playing home on Memory Park's Upper Field on Monday, April 10.

Riley Scuralli and Taylor Thieme each got one RBI  for the Braves. Scuralli went 1-for-4, while Thieme went 1-for-2, with one hit.

Petrina Herold went 2-for-4 with a double. Payton Collander and Sierra Dunn each scored a run for the Braves.

Herold led the team with stolen bases, grabbing two throughout the game, while Rebecca Finley also had a stolen base.

Katie Maker pitched the full seven inning game for the Braves, with five strike-outs and four walks. Maker allowed 10 hits, nine runs, and seven errors.

The Braves are 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the league. They will take on Mountain Lakes, away on Wednesday, April 12, beginning at 4 p.m.
