I am Sr. Kim Keraitis, a Salesian Sister, currently a HS principal in Miami but also part of the Salesian Sisters communities who serve at Camp Auxilium and Sacred Heart Center in Newton.

My niece and nephew currently attend Newton High School and have been very active in Band and Choir since elementary school. Because Newton is such a small town, there is little for teens to do outside of their high school activities. Athletics, Band and Choir have helped them develop their talents, positive self- esteem, keep up grades and stay away from drugs and drinking.

I encourage the Newton Board of Education to please consider these factors when deciding job positions for next school year. Being in education, it is a heart wrenching decision to have to make but sometimes it isn’t about eliminating a position as much as re-structuring the roles to be a financial asset than a burden to the school system.
