NEWTON, NJ—The Newton School District welcomes many new faces into the administration for the 2015-2016 school year. The final addition being the new Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at the high school, Ryan Hashway.
Originally from Sussex County, Hashway attended High Point Regional High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelors in Science and a Master of Arts in education from East Stroudsburg University.
His career in education began in 1999. “Since then, I have been a middle and high school social studies teacher,” Hashway said in an interview with TAP into Newton. In the past 10 years, he has been a supervisor in multiple areas, not all congruently, including social studies, world language, industrial arts, fine arts, performing arts, and professional development.
Hashway is married with an eight-year old daughter and has many interests and hobbies. Some of his hobbies include a love of history and social studies, as well as running, exercising, and watching any level of sports on television.
He has been extremely active in athletics during his entire career. He has spent many years as head coach of cross country, indoor track, and golf, as well as high school soccer and baseball. “The athletic piece to the position is something I always knew I would pursue”, said Hashway. He could always be seen regularly at sports events, whether it was as a fan or as a coach.
Hashway is excited for the opportunity to be here at Newton as the assistant principal and athletic director. “I am fortunate that this position allows me to still interact and help teachers grow,” he said. Over the next year, Hashway looks forward to getting to know the entire Newton staff, while becoming enriched in the Newton spirit.
