NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School team lost four games in a row last week before they played in the NJSIAA tournament at the end of the week.
On Monday they lost 7-16 against Randolph, on Tuesday, 1-16 against Jefferson, on Thursday, they lost 8-10 to Warren Hills and on Saturday, they took on Parsippany Hills and lost a close game 9-10.
The Vandenberg brothers, Kyle and Ryan led the Braves in scoring against Warren Hills. Ryan scored three goals and Kyle had four with one assist.
Matt Krawchuk also had one assist, and Grant Parker had one goal scored for Newton. Chris Polyak, keeper for Newton allowed 10 goals but stopped 15 of the shots taken on him by Warren Hills’ offense.
Ryan again led the team in scoring against Parsippany Hills with five goals scored. Kyle scored one goal and had three assists.
Parker had one goal and one assist, Krawchuk once again had an assist, and this game Andrew Chrustic scored two goals and had one assist. Polyak had nine saves against their offense.
The Braves then took on third-seeded Glen Rock in the NJSIAA North, Group 1 tournament as the 14-seeded team. Newton lost 3-18.
Krawchuck led this time, scoring two goals, while Ryan had one. No stats were given for Polyak against Glen Rock’s offense.
Glen Rock moved to Quarterfinal round against six-seeded Ramsey and won 11-6 to move to the semi-final round where they will take on second-seeded Kinnelon on Wednesday.
