NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys lacrosse team lost to Kittatinny on Wednesday, when they played them under the lights on Newton’s turf. Kittatinny won 18-16.
“The Newton versus. Kittatinny game for the Beatty Cup trophy was one of the best games I have seen in a while,” head coach Brian Bennington said. “Both teams showed amazing effort and sportsmanship. I am very proud of the way my Newton players came together as a family and put forth their best performance to date."
Grant Parker led the Braves in scoring with five goals and won MVP for the game, according to Bennington, “his name will be engraved on the Beatty Cup."
Ryan Vanderburg and Andrew Chrustic each had four goals, Kyle Vandenberg had two and Matt Krawchuk had one. Chrustic grabbed 14 ground balls throughout the game.
“Our offense was on fire,” Bennington said “Vandenberg earned his 100th career point, while Vanderburg put in four goals to get just nine goals away from 100 career goals, amazing."
Assists were made by Christic-2, Krawchuk-1, Vanderburg-4, Max Weiss-1 and Giovanni Bevacqua-2.
Playing in the goal for Newton was Chris Polyak who had eight saves against Kittatinny’s 42 shots throughout the game.
“Even though we came up on the short end of the stick, the team played with the heart that was missing in prior games. I am very proud of them,” said Bennington.
The Braves move their record to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the league.
