MORRISTOWN, NJ – Newton Lenape Valley was knocked out of the hunt for the Haas Cup by Whippany Park on Saturday 3-2.  Playing at Mennen Arena the second seed NLV was upset by third seed in the semifinal round.

NLV’s Ryan Vandenberg and Todd Zellars got past the Wildcat’s goalie.  Each team scored in the first period.  The Wildcats got two in the second while Whippany Park’s goalie only allowed one NLV shot to get by him. 

Chris Schneider, Whippany Park’s goalie had 32 stops.

 Ryan Vandenberg, Tyler Sevean and Jake Kaplan each contributed with an assist.

Trey Kaplan, in net for NLV was credited with 17 stops. 

Whippany Park with play first seed Montville on Thursday at Mennen beginning at 5:30 p.m.

On Thursday Newton beat Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury from Connecticut 5-2.  Playing on NLV’s home ice at Skylands Ice World in Stockholm, both teams played a stalemate in the first period. The Connecticut team was the first to strike in the second period but NLV answered back with two goal before the second period ended. 

NLV scored three in the third for the win. 

Andrew Dalessandro led the team with a hat trick and an assist.  Ryan Vandenberg added the other two goals for the win. 

Sevean had two assists as well.  Trey Kaplan has 26 saves to keep NLV on top. 

Newton is seeded 17 in the NJSIAA Public B tournament.  They are scheduled to play 16 seed Tenafly on February 20.
