MORRISTOWN, NJ – Newton Lenape Valley ice hockey had two games end with a tie this week. On Saturday night they tied Parsippany Hills 3-3 at Skylands Ice World. They tied Whippany Park on Tuesday at Mennen Arena 2-2.
On Saturday night the first period ended even with a goal each. In the second period NLV went ahead with two goals to the Vikings one. Parsippany was able to tie it up in the third.
NLV was led by Ryan Vandenberg against Par Hills with two goals. Tyler Sevean had a goal as well. Liam Cherry, Kyle Vandenberg and Tyler Wilson all contributed with an assist.
Goalie Ian Freericks was in net for NLV with 24 saves.
In the Whippany Park game, NLV held the Wildcats scoreless through the first two period then allowed two in the third.
Ryan Vandenberg, assisted by Kyle Vandenberg struck first for NLV early in the first period. Maverick Reiner put in the second shot in the second period. He was assisted by Tyler Wilson and Joe Castelluccio.
Taylor Zinc, in goal for NLV stopped 32 Whippany shots. Zinc now boasts 159 saves for the season with just over a 90 percent save average, allowing only 16 goals.
NLV had 15 shots on Chris Schneider the Wildcats goalie.
NLV’s record stands at 8-2-3. They will host Whippany Park on Monday at Skylands with a 9 p.m. start time.
