Newton Middle School Joins Attendance Awareness Campaign

NEWTON, NJ—Principal Kristi Greene and Asst. Principal Angela Dunbar have joined with AttendanceWorks.org for Attendance Awareness Month.

“For attendance awareness month, our teachers are motivating students to come to school every day on time”, states Halsted's homepage http://newtonnj.org.

In Superindent Green’s blog, he talks about the Attendance Awareness Month Campaign. “Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.”

Halsted has asked every student, teacher, and parent/guardian to sign a pledge that states that they will participate in Attendance Awareness Month. Students will strive to have perfect attendance, parents/guardians will help get their students to school on time every day, and teachers will make sure that students are on time and in class.

Signs for Attendance Awareness Month were distributed to local businesses in Newton earlier this month in hopes of spreading the word to residents and showing that the business support this pledge as well.

There will be more updates in the upcoming week on how Halsted did with their student, teacher, and parent/guardian pledges, as well as the amount of children that attended school this past month in honor of the pledge they made.
