NEWTON, NJ—A Stillwater woman is facing drug charges after crashing her car into a telephone pole on Monday, June 18 police said.
Newton police officers responded to a report of an accident around 9:16 a.m. near Tuscany Bistro on Route 206 . The driver Samantha Benson, 30, was distracted after dropping a lit cigarette, causing her to crash, police report.
When Sgt Michael Monaco searched the car he found needles, drug paraphernalia along with several full and empty wax folds of suspected heroin in Benson’s purse, police said.
Benson was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic syringes. She was also ticketed for careless driving, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and failure to maintain lane. Benson was not injured in the accident and was brought to Sussex County Jail.
