NEWTON, NJ—An Oak Ridge woman is facing drunk driving charges after a single-car accident on October 10. Around 2:46 a.m. Newton Police responded to the report of an accident with injuries in the area of High Street, near the Summit Avenue Pond, where they found Rebecca Dwyer, 26, police said.
According to police, Dwyer was traveling South on High Street when she left the road and hit a tree on the southbound side of the road. The crash caused the airbags to deploy, police said.
Dwyer was transported to the Newton Medical Center by Atlantic Ambulance for injuries to her arms and hands, police said.
According to police, a subsequent investigation revealed that Dwyer was under the influence, and she was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under The Influence, Careless Driving and Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle.
The Newton Police Department Investigating Officer was Ptl. Jared Zappa, and he was assisted by Newton Police Officers Sgt. Thomas Tosti, Ptl. Steven Kneidl and Ptl. Steven Siek, as well as the Atlantic Ambulance.
