NEWTON, NJ—A Newton man is facing charges after having stolen a truck. Police were alerted to reports of an erratic driver in the area of Spring Street around 10:54 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, police said.
The officers found Christopher Rayfield, 48, on Water Street driving a maroon, Chevrolet Silverado pick up. When he was stopped the officers Rayfield they found his drivers’ license was suspended, police said.
Police also found the truck had been stolen from a local business in Newton.
Rayfield was charged with burglary and theft of moveable property, driving while suspended and failure to maintain lane, police said.
Rayfield was processed and released pending an appearance in Sussex County Superior Court on June 10, 2020. According to police, the vehicle was returned to its owner.
