NEWTON, NJ—A Sussex man was stopped for speeding and was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant. Christopher Caufield was pulled over by Newton Police Sgt. Michael Monaco, though he initially gave a false name to the officer on January 12 around 1 a.m. policer report.
A check on the 30-year-old turned up a $2,500 outstanding warrant from Totowa Boro municipal court.
Caufield was taken into custody, charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction, speeding, operating a motor vehicle while suspended and being an unlicensed driver.
Caufield was turned over to the Totowa Boro Police Department and lodged in the Passaic County Jail.
There is a case pending an appearance in Newton Municipal Court on January 24, according to police.
Newton Police Department’s Sgt. Michael Monaco and Ptl. John Flanagan as well as officers from the Andover Twp. Police Department Ptl. George Laoudis and Ptl. Matt Puccio were all involved with the investigation.
