NEWTON, NJ—A Wantage woman is facing charges after a traffic stop on Water Street. On January 17 around 12:12 p.m. Officer John Flanagan stopped Sandra Canarte, 43, for an overdue inspection sticker, police said.
Canarte told Flanagan she did not have any identification with her and then gave him her name. When Flanagan checked the name, Canarte did not match the physical characteristics, police said.
The driver admitted her true name and that she had given a false name because her license was suspended, police said.
Canarte was taken into custody and brought to Newton Police Department headquarters for processing. She was charged with hindering apprehension, failure to inspect, driving while suspended, failure to produce a driver’s license, failure to produce a registration card.
Cararte was released with a court date.
