NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Braves Softball team was shutout when they play away against High Point on Monday, May 16, and lost 9-0.

Katie Maker started for the Braves, pitching five innings. She struck out one, walked seven, and allowed seven hits with no errors.

Taylor Thieme relieved Maker, pitching the final inning for Newton. She struck out four, walked two, and allowed four hits with no runs or errors.

Despite their 27 at-bats, Newton just could not get a run to cross the plate. There were four hits, a walk and one double for the Braves.

Carly Deiorio went 2-for-3, Sierra Dunn went 1-for-3, and Emma Hesse went 1-for-4, contributing the double for the Braves.  

Larsen, Riley Scuralli, Kathryn Szatkiewicz, and Grace Thuen all went 0-for-3 at bat.

Brielle Brown, who walked for the Braves went 0-for-1. Thieme who had four at bats, went 0-for-4 throughout the game.

The Braves are currently 7-12 overall and are fourth in the league at 3-5, just behind Wallkill Valley (4-3), Kittatinny (6-2) and North Warren who leads (5-1).

They will take on Ramsey away on Monday, May 23 in the first round of states.
