NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Braves Softball team swept past Hopatcong on Monday, May 9, beating them 15-1 on Newton’s field.

Katie Maker pitched the full five-inning game for the Braves. She struck out five and allowed three hits on one error.

Emma Hesse led the team in RBIs with three. She went 3-for-3, with two doubles. Riley Scuralli, Taylor Thieme, and Grace Thuen each contributed two RBIs for the Braves.

Scuralli went 1-for-3, scoring one run, Thieme went 2-for-4, scoring twice and getting a triple. Thuen went 1-for-3, scoring one run.

Carly De Iorio, Petrina Herold, Angelya Larsen, and Kathryn Szatkiewicz had one RBI a piece for the team.

Deiorio went 2-for-4, scoring one run. Herold went 1-for-1, scoring a run. Larsen went 0-for-1 with a walk and two runs. Szatkiewicz went 2-for-2 with one run.

Sierra Dunn went 1-for-1, walking twice and scoring two runs. Brielle Brown went 1-for-2, scoring one run. Morgan Mendel went 0-for-1, scoring one run as well.

The Braves had 25 at bats, 14 hits, two doubles, one triple, and three walks. There was one error in fielding for the Braves.
