NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School softball team demolished Mountain Lakes, 14-1 when they played them away on Wednesday.

Leading the Braves in their victory over Mountain Lakes was Riley Scuralli, who went 4-for-5, scoring three runs and bringing in five RBIs.

Carly De Iorio went 1-for-3, with one run and two two RBIs, while Sierra Dunn went 2-for-2, with one run, and an RBI.

Payton Collander, and Morgan Mendel each contributed one run to the scoreboard, while Petrina Herold scored two runs.

Hannah Roessler and Taylor Thieme, each went 1-for-2 at bat, contributing two runs apiece for the Braves. Kathryn Szatkiewicz went 1-for-3 also scored one run.

Hannah Roessler pitched the entire game, shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. In her abbreviated time on the mound, she struck out four, had no walks and only allowed one run on four hits, with one error.

The Newton High School softball team is 3-2 overall and 1-2 in their league. They move to host High Point on Monday, April 24, beginning at 4 p.m.
