NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School Wrestling team crushed Hackettstown when they defeated them 46-27, home, on Tuesday.

Despite losing the first match, the Braves came back winning four matches with pins, two with decisions and one with a major decision.

  • Weight Class 106: Aidan Bartsch (N) won in an 8-3 decision over Nate Bennett (H)
  • Weight Class 113: Julian Sibblies (N) won with a Hackettstown forfeit
  • Weight Class 120: Steven Nicotra (H) won with a Newton forfeit
  • Weight Class 126: Michael Freda (N) won in a 10-6 decision over Erick Garcia (H)
  • Weight Class 132: Justin Bennett (H) won with a pin in 3:37 over Erion Mahmudi (N)
  • Weight Class 145: Jake DeLuca (N) won with a pin in 3:49 over Garrett Meyer (H)
  • Weight Class 152: Nicholas Giordano (N) won with a 11-3 major decision over Jacob Carrara (H)
  • Weight Class 160: Ryan McCarthy (N) won with a Hackettstown forfeit
  • Weight Class 170: John Kreusch (N) won with a pin in 5:45 over Anthony Gonzalez (H)
  • Weight Class 182: Joseph DeLuca (N) won with a pin in 3:04 over Shawn Burke (H)
  • Weight Class 195: Devin Mager (N) won with a pin in 3:13 over Logan Tillou (H)
  • Weight Class 220: Kyle Connelly (H) won with a pin in 0:40 over Jimmy Harding (N)
  • Weight Class 285: Joe Andes (H) won with a 1-0 decision over Luis Arrazola (N)

Despite some lose knee pads, bruised shoulders from pins, and one bloody nose from a Hackettstown player, the Braves came out on top in their victory over Hackettstown.

Their record is 3-3 overall in the season this year and 1-0 in their conference division.
