NEWTON, NJ—The Newton woman who was struck by a car will be ticketed for failure to use the crosswalk. On Thursday, January 5 around 5:21 p.m. Newton police went to the Mill Street near the Brookside Terrace apartments, responding to a call of a person having been struck by a car.
The police officers administered first aid to Evelyn Strauss who had been hit when walking across Mill Street. According to police the 60-year-old had been walking in the road.
The driver, Juan Cabrera of Allentown, PA ,was unable to stop in time. The 48-year-old struck Strauss with his 2005 Hyundai which, according to police, ended up with a broken windshield.
The Newton First Aid Squad and Sussex Ambulance arrived on the scene to assist Strauss. She was taken to Newton Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, police report.
